Caroline Samson, a dietitian working at a Community Health Centre, recently shared:
“The resource “Consider the Circumstances” provided a significant “awakening” in one of my clients. She identified that she tended to overeat when around certain family members. She thought that family members could only be triggers if you don’t get along with them. In contrast, she found herself overeating when around these lovely and fun family members and was not able to say “no”. She set some goals to take action to set her own boundaries around food and family. My client felt empowered and proud now that she was able to make this link between certain circumstances and her behaviors.”
Caroline also shared how she has broken down some of the Craving Change CBT activities into smaller steps for clients who are feeling overwhelmed. For example, suggesting initial awareness of ‘mouth hunger’ only or noting eating triggers just specifically during work hours. She reports that this client-centered approach has proven to be very helpful and supportive.
